Bio - Mireya Medina

Before coming to USC, Mireya was working at a local kosher kith, executing catering events that adhered to the dietary kosher laws. Her mother has been her biggest inspiration to become a Chef. Growing up in a large family with many brothers and sisters, she was tasked with either doing chores or cooking and she chose the latter. Her mother instilled in her the discipline she has today when in the kitchen.

Mireya pursued her passion and enrolled in the culinary program at Le Cordon Bleu. Upon completion she began employment at USC in Retail Operations and then transitioned to Restaurants when Moreton Fig opened as a Culinary Specialist. She has moved up the ranks and will lead the culinary team in our premiere on campus restaurant. For the past seven years, her experiences have been profound and have contributed to both her personal and professional growth. Mireya’s style of cooking is family style food. Large amounts of healthy cooking that everyone can enjoy. She loves exploring a myriad of fares such as, haute cuisine, Italian, Thai, Tex-Mex, fusion salads, vegetarian, and organic foods. What makes her unique in her position is that she likes to explore every type of cuisine and make it her own. “Our guests come from diverse backgrounds, from countries around the globe. The core of my ambitions as a chef is to create novel, tasteful and memorable food for everyone.”

Mireya’s food philosophy is simple; she likes to cook from the heart. Her experiences over the years have imparted a sense of confidence in her abilities as a chef. In the next few years she plans to continue her professional development in the culinary world by pursuing different education programs that will help her stay up to date on the latest innovations in the field.

Mireya says that she loves working at USC, “I can feel the pride and spirit permeating throughout the university. Every day as I walk on campus I am reminded of the power of the Trojan Family. It’s a great feeling to be a part of something that is bigger than yourself.” Mireya has been happily married for the past seven years and has three daughters Layla 6, Alice 2 and Sophia 1. When she is not cooking, she is enjoying quality time with her family.
